working in this field. They informed me worldwide by sending letters, later faxes
and emails since 1994 about World-Around-Travellers. Without their help I could
not get to this level. This internet-list had to be done very quick, because I
did not have enough time. So please give me your "pardon" that there are mistakes
inside of the informations and a lot in my language. At least you will never have
seen such a huge collection of informations. Bernd Tesch

Jane-Banbury Norris and David Banbury (British, live
in Australia, age 32
and 34 in 2001) http://www.lostsheep.com/diaries ("Babe and Yahoo
in S. America")
+
Around South-America. "Babe
and Yahoo" rode on two Honda
Transalps 30.500 kms in 8 months.
This was our honeymoon. We rode around S-America with no fixed plan and very little
research beforehand. We like to take it as we find it. We were on 2 Honda Transalps
(1993 model) which we had previously bought in England (2nd hand) and ridden to
India and then shipped to Australia for 18 months. The bikes were old with ~80,000kms
on each before this trip. We had minimal preparation time but Transalps are reliable.
Our luggage was soft panniers we had made from buffalo skin in Pakistan. They
look rough but work really well and we prefer them to the hard ally panniers we
had before.
Route: We shipped the bikes from Sydney to Val Paraiso
in Chile where we got them out through the port in 1/2 day with no bribes and
not much trouble. We rode 30.500 kms in total taking minor roads and dirt tracks
where possible and avoiding highways: Chile: Santiago de Chile - Conception - Alto Bio
Bio cross-country to Lonquimay - Temuco - zig-zag through the Lake District crossing
between Chile & Argentina several times - south on Routa 40 in Argentina to Perito Moreno National Park - El Chalten - Perito Moreno Glacier - Rio Gallegos
- cross to Chile to get to Tierra del Fuego then back to Argentina to get to Ushuaia - back to Chile to go trekking in Torres del Paine National
Park - took boat from Puerto Natales to Puerto Montt - south on Camino Austral
to Pichanco - back to Santiago by end of March. Santiago - cross to Argentina - north to Paso Agua Negra back to Chile - Pisco Elqui - north to Paso
San Francisco back to Argentina - north to Cafayate - Salta - Paso Sico
back to Chile - San Pedro de Atacama - Iquique. Then on one bike north
to Peru - Tacna - Mazo Cruz - Desaguadero - Cusco - Inca Trail - Puerto
Maldonado (by plane) - Abancay - Camana - south along coast back to Chile - Iquique by end of May - Back on 2 bikes - Iquique - Salar de Surire near Bolivian
border)- Putre - cross to Bolivia - Oruro - Potosi - Sucre - Toro Toro
National Park - Santa Cruz - San Ignacio - San Jose - Cochabamba - La Paz - Coroico
- Rurrenabaque - Riberalta - cross to Brazil - Porto Velho - by boat to
Manaus & Belem - Sao Luis - Jericoacoara - Acarau - Brazillia - Cascavel - Iguazu
- cross to Argentina - Salta - Paso Sico to Chile - San Pedro de
Atacama - Iquique by mid-September. We sold the bikes in Iquique which was easy
and we got a good price. Caught the bus back to Santiago & flew back to Aus.
Purpose of travel: Fun & adventure.
The best: Camping in the
Chile/Argentine Lake District, Perito Moreno Glacier, Camino Austral in the sun,
the high Andean Passes between N.Chile & Argentina, Jesuit missions in East Bolivia,
beach in Brazil, Iguazu.
The worst: Travelling with a guy who hit a
child in Bolivia. Endless problems getting out of Bolivia via the north, neck
trouble in Brazil.
Book or publication about the tour): .......
Useful informations and TIPS for others: Endless. Soft bags are good, bikes
can usually get through road blockades, get off the highways, it's amazing what
you can fix on the road, don't count on couriers to send you stuff you need,...

Info: Wir haben unsere Motorräder von Deutschland
aus verschifft und dann 6 Monate Südamerika bereist. In Ecuador haben wir
die Maschinen dann verkauft. Es war eine fantastische Reise. Besonders beeindruckt
haben uns: Der wüste, karge Norden Chiles. Einsames Zelten in freier Natur.
Nasca-Linien. Das unglaublich grüne Ecuador.

+
Chile. Argentina. South: Hanka, Jens and Frank = "Isi" rode
on two BMW R 80 GS 10.000 km in Chile and Argentina. They flew their bikes to
Santiago and started in November to south. They rode fantastic gravel roads in
the Chilean and Argentina Lakes District among smoking vulcanos and deep blue
lakes (roads trough the P.N. Conguillio, P.N. Villarica, Paso Carirrine to Argentina,
P.N. Lanin and P.N. Los Alerces). At Coihaique the went back to Chile and hit
there on the great Carretera Austral. They rode trough the green rainforests in
P.N. Queulat and Parque Pumalin. For going north they shipped to Isla Chiloe and
then to the mainland at Puerto Montt. Bevore going back to Santiago they rode
around the Lago Llanquihue and visitesd the vulcano Osorno.
North: At
Christmas began in Santiago the second part of the travel. They followed the Panamericana
north in the hot and dry Atacama Desert. On New Years Eve they arrived at 4.300
above the sea level the world`s highest geyser field El Tatio near San Pedro de
Atacama. For crossing the Atacama Desert they used gravel roads and minig roads
from San Pedro de Atacama over the Salar de Atacama, Mina Escondida, Yungay (only
a cemetery) to Panamericana. After a few days on the beach in the pleasant P.N.
Pan de Azucar they started once more in the high Andes and rode from Chanaral
over La Ola and Maricunga to Lago Verde below the famous Paso San Francisco.
Purpose of travel: Discovering of land, people and nature
The best:
Riding on the Carretera Austral. Riding on the lonely high Andean roads among
magnificent scenery. A New Years dinner with Chilean Carabineros on 4.300 m altitude....
The worst: Chilenitis" - a verry devoted diarrhea...
Earlier
experiences: Hanka and Jens have been travelling several times in Australia
(see Australia). Therfore B.T, asked them:
Australia
or South-America again ? If we could only do ONE other mc-tour again we would
prefer Australia. It offers us the garanty for travelleing relaxed in a phantasitic
nature. A contact with friendly people and contact to the top-secret culture of
the world of the Aborigines. If we really would have time we would do our mc-tour
from 1999 again: Darwin - Kimberleys - Bungle Bungles - Broome - Pilbara - Cape
Range - Monkey Mia - area around Perth to the wild flowers and then continue to
Kalgoorlie - Warburton - Red Center - Uluru - Mac Donnell Ranges. In the end a
bit of relaxing and adventure in Queensland. Walikng by foot in Tasmania and visit
friends.
We can only write this after we discovered a part of South-America,
especilay Chile. We like Chile !
03.02.2002 Jens and Hanka have been participants at the Tesch-Travel-Treffen 9 times between 1995 and 2003. Frank

Argentina. Chile - Argentina (Feuerland). Martin
rode solo with HONDA AFRICA TWIN
Purpose: The reasen for this trip is disappear from this cracy, hectical
and inpersonal Germany for a while. Also I like to stay in the nature with my
tent and feel the quiet of untouched countries. That is the reason that I make
these long trips alone. Otherwise It's nice to see the life of other people and
cultures with totally different conditions. WE CAN LEARN THE WHOLE LIFE LONG
Route: I sent my motorcycle
by ship from Hamburg to Buenos Aires. I will fly by plane from Frankfurt. The
approximately route will be: Argentina (Buenos Aires) - Chile (Santiago de Chile).
Through Chile to the southmost point. Than back to Patagonia over the Andes and
down to Tierra del Fuego. From the southmost city of the world back to Buenos
Aires at the east coast of Argentina. The total kilometers will be around 8-10.000.
I'm looking forward to have a lot of great experiences. It must be a beautyul
country.
Wieder zurück in Argentinien
Silvester in
10.000 Gesamtkilometer,
davon 3.500 zum Teil sehr grobe Schotterpiste. Dezember und Januar bescherten
mir nur gutes Motorradwetter. Die Gastfreundschaft auf den einsamen Haciendas
war einmalig. Meine schon betagte Africa Twin funktionierte wiedermal problemlos.
Other experienences: Since 18 years I love it to travel by motorcycle and since 4 years I travel always
together with my HONDA AFRICA TWIN (my best friend). I visited many places in
Europe and also Kathmandu/Nepal in Dez 99.(fantastic tour) So I've planed a new
excursion to South-America.

Jörg Kauschke (German, born 1963) and Bernd Hoffmann (German, born ??? )
+ South America.
Purpose of travel: Urlaub / Spass
Route: Von Valparaiso nach Uspalata (AR), Routa 40 nach norden ueber Jachal, Cafayate, Catchi nach Salta. Ueber Sico Pass nach San Pedro de Atacama (CL) weiter ueber Jama Pass zurueck nach Salta. Ueber Tucuman, Cordoba, Santa Rosa nach Viedma. Dort Motorrad treffen!!
The Worst: San Pedro de Atacama hatt mir gar nicht gefallen.

Purpose of
travel: Why Southamerica? The variety of landscapes and cultures of these

first goal: Argentina (Usuahia). At the southlight point of earth we take the
direction north: Chile - Bolivia - Peru - perhaps Brazil. See times, how long
our travel chest is enough. We hope that our budget will be sufficient approx.
6 months.
Buenos Aires, Ushuaia, Torres del Paine, Calafate, Perito Moreno,
Santiago, Mendoza, SP.de Atacama, Salta, direction Uruguay, Iguazu in Argentina
again Brasilianian site, again Argantiba site back to Buenos Aires. At 17th of
april 2004 with freightship of Grimaldi back to Hamburg (4 weeks, € 1200
each)
The best: Vale de la luna (Argentina); Ushuaia; Torres del Paine;
Caretera Austral, Atacama Wueste, Paso de San Francisco, Valdes...
The worst: We have had two small accidents, one time one finger was broken and so we lost
3 weeks time...

Michael Schulze
(German, 29.12.1961)
+ Chile. Michael
rode solo with a hired Yamaha XT 600 ca. 7.000km through North Chile (Atacama Desert).
Purpose
of travel: Seeing wonderful sceneries and other cultures
Route:
Santiago de Chile via PanAm to Arica. Trips to Putre Salar de Surire
Volcan Parinacota/ Lago Chungara (highest sea of the world) San Pedro de
Atacama Paso Jama (4.200m) Laguna Miscanti + Laguna Meniques (Near
Paso Sico) Valle del Elqui Paso Agua Negra (4.765m) and back to
Santiago de Chile.
The best: Scenery in the Andes, especially in the
area around San Pedro de Atacama; very helpful people
The mountains in the
Andes have beautiful colour, you can´t partly believe that it is real. If
you drive one of the passes, you are nearly alone. One day on a dirt track road
I met nobody the whole day (about 380km).
When I had my technical problems
(see the worst) a van stopped suddenly and three people tried to help
me. People always try to help you, also when your Spanish is not perfekt or you
don´t speak Spanish at all.
The worst: Puncture in the back tire
of the bike. The long and boring distances on the PamAm.

South-America. Silvia (Honda Africa Twin RD07. 1999. 55.000 km ) and
Martin (Honda Transalp PD06. 70.000 km) plan to visit a good portion of the South
American continent.
Purpose of your travel: We always were a bit envious
to people we've met who were on long journeys and dreamed to do something like
that. Because my employer does not need me in the near future we take the chance
to do a long trip and visit a continent we both feel attracted to and which will
be less likely to be visited in a shorter timeframe.
Route: Ship Bikes
to Equador, then visit Equador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile /Argentina. Be in Tierra
del Fuego around christmas / new years day. Then go up north and visit more parts
of Argentina /Chile. Be in Buenos Aires around april/ may, ship the bikes back
to Germany from BsAs.
Route not yet planned - you can't plan it exactly anyway
- suggestions welcome. In the moment planning focus is on bike and equipment preparation.
Highlights:
Still to come :-)
The worst: Also still to come. In the moment i'd
say planning is a nightmare - although we are no bike travel beginners....
Book
or publication: none so far but you never know...
Useful informations
and TIPS for others: I DO NOT AT ALL RECOMMEND A BMW 2 VALVE GS AS A SERIOUS
TROUBLE- FREE TRAVEL BIKE. THIS BIKE HAS BEEN MY MOST EXPENSIVE SO FAR AND THE
MOST DISAPPOINTING IN TERMS OF RELIABILITY AND COST. I bought it (which type ???)
with 30.000 km, sold it with 100.000 km and had many very serious and costly defects
and no-go's in the most unwelcome situations and remote areas. Who would for example
appreciate a gearbox breakdown in Libya or a shaft drive breakdown in the middle
of eastern Anatolia (both twice, also alternator 2x, starter 2x, ignition lock,
front rim, shock, hall sensor, regulator, rectifier, to name a few). And BMW Munich
would not even discuss about all those issues (Motto: millions of shit- eating
flies can't be wrong...) Also 3000 Euros in spare parts (not counting regular
maintenance) in 70.000km is not a lump sum...I'm done with BMW forever :-(((
Although
I loved that bike for it's driving capabilities I decided to change it for a used
Africa Twin which proved to be extremely reliable so far (it even did 55.000 km
on it's first chain kit, almost twice the distance of your average BMW gearbox
or shaft U-joint life)- knock on wood...

. The SUZIS were from two guys who travelled Alaska-Tierra del Fuego in year 2002/03 and left the bikes there. Finally both rode ??? km.
Purpose of travel: To see what happened within 10 years (Chris was there in Venezuela in 1996 already) later, to meet people and landscape again.
Route: Merida - cosat - Orinoco - Gran Sabana - ciudat Bolivar.
The best: Gran Sabana, traumhafte Landschaft, Tafelberge, Flüsse und kaum besiedelt.
The worst: Controls "on the road"

South America. Argentina, Chile : a beginning (see further up 06.11.2007)
With two BMW F 650 GS Dakar Karen and Goetz rode 18.000 km in 2 (yes: just two!) different countries.
Purpose of travel: Changing continents. It took us years to prepare the takeoff for half a year during our main season.
The long and lonesome roads still do attract us. But unfortunately there´s fences everywhere! No more freeeee camping like Sibiria
Earlier Experiences of big Motorcycle-Tours: Together nearly all over Europe . Maximum 10.000 km a trip. Götz circled the world 1981-1983 by backpacking. Goetz rode alone Berlin > Northcape > Lake Baikal > Berlin , 26.500 km, in 2003. Karen and Goetz rode together Berlin - Central Asia - Berlin , 25.000 km, in 2004 (Search in this website). Russia and Mongolia 2005, 17.500 km. A wee circle in Europe filling gaps (Moldovia) in 2006, 10.000 km
Route : shipped bikes to Buenos Aires (BA) in nov 06. Followed by plane. Ruta 3 down to Ushuaia, ship to Antartica. Where it is NOT allowed to ride a motorcycle. Heading up the Andes north interchanging between Chile and Argentina (ruta 40). From Santiago de Chile a sidetrip to Easter Island (yessir, without bikes, toooo expensive). A trip into Atacama desert north and wayback to BA. There we left the bikes in a garage to be hauled out next time :)
The best: we learnt this time how to ship a bike. Argentina is like little Italy (Como te vaaa). Una persona que sepa el lenguaje entiende. No REALLY bad accidents.
The worst: many things broke down. Bikes, clothes, camping gear. http://www.n-tv.de/883860.html this was the ship which "rode" us to antartida 2006/2007. It went down the next season.

Living in Munich he organised with a collegue to rend a 20-feet container there, offered in some motorcycle-forum that others could bring their mc to Munich, send it with the container to Chile (Valpairaiso) and back to Munich. Finally te container was full with 14 motorcycles. You did not have to put he motorcycle in a wooden box. And could send all your motorcycle-luggage with the container. So you do not have to pay money for taking over-weight in your personal flight. The costs for both ways were only € 1200,00 per bike including some costs of "Villa Kunterbunt" for all help in Valpairaiso. Frank and his friend made all the organisation like paperwork and customs in Munich but free of charge for all. Because of this good experience they made another transport to Chile / Valpairaiso in ??.01.2011 to ??.02.2012 with ?? motorcycles.
Route : ????
leaving Buenos Aires (BA) via Rio de la Plata to Montevideo, Uruguay, straight thru to Brasil, back to the coast up to Rio de Janeiro, back to Foz do Iguazu, crossing Paraguay, crossing NW Argentina via Andes to northern Chile, crossing into Bolivia to eastern flatlands, crossing Andes back westward to Lake Titicaca, into Peru, Cuzco, Nasca, Lima.
The best: ??
The worst: ?? Two nights no sleep (Goetz) due to height sickness.

Acknoweledgement: B.T. has never heard that a private person organized a private tour like this himself with an "own rented container" to South-America.
08.11.2011 If you transport your bike by your own to S-A you have to build an extra wooden box and transport this to Hamburg. All will costs you a lot of work, time and money.

+ South-America. Dominik motorcycled more than 15.000 km mostly solo through the southern part of South America on his XT 600 E "Topo". The first 1.500 km he rode together with Tanja. 50 % was off-road.
Purpose of your travel: I recently turned 40 and did not want to postpone this dream much longer. On the Tesch-Travel-Treffen 2009 I was motivated to do this trip and got a lot of info.
Route: I flew with ??airline for € ?? one way to Argentina. From here by bike: Aregentina (Buenos Aires- Mendoza) - Chile (Santiago de Chile- La Serena- Aqua Negra-) Argentina (San Juan- Neuquen )- between Argentine and Chilenian Lake Districts changing- Chile (Carretera Austral) - Argentina (Ruta 4- Ushuaia- (Antarctica by boat 10 days as a "last minute offer")- Argentina (Ruta 3- Buenos Aires) - Uruguay (Punta del Este) - Argentina (Buenos Aires).
Highlights: Being on top of the Andes pass Aqua Negra (4870 m), riding through Patagonia (Ruta 40, Carretera Austral), juicy steaks and fruitful wines at bargain prices, meeting really marvelous people
The worst: Argentine coffee (possibly only god knows why they drink coloured water!). Hepco Becker rack broke left side 4 times (my alu-box was filled up very heavy with each 20 kg in total). The alu-box was covered with Buchfolie. Waterproof.
Book or publication: www.mymapblog.com/dominik
My useful informations and TIPS for others:
Egineer Dominik prepared the bike very carefully by taking off everything before and mounting it again. Because of two persons and weight (each alu-box was 20 kg including all equipment !) he bought and mountained a "Wilbers-Federbein" for € 600,00. And he mounted a 24 liter Acerbis plastic-fuel-tank without TÜV (normal is ca. 14 liter on the XT 600 E which is good for 250 kms). In practise he met a petrol station at least in 250 km distance. Even on ruta 40. His bike had 370 kg in total.
In Argentina it was difficult
to get motorcycles tyres because they had a stop for import at this time. In Chile it was no problem to get new tires. At first he used a Conti TKC 80 for 5.000 kms. And then a Metzeler Kahoo with more off-road-profile for 7.000 kms. In Brasil are only very few original YAMAHA workshops for motorcycles.-
Dominik send his bike and the one of his friend Claudio by "Columbus Logistik Services" in Hamburg via shipping-line "Hamburg-Süd" to Argentina (Buenos Aires) for a total-price of € 1060,00 one way but including all fees of police and customs (Tel. 040-7566400 in 2009). No more money to get the motorcycle "on the road" in half a day in B.A. !! - He send the motorcycle back from B.A. via "Hamburg-Süd" in B.A. for € 800,00 for each motorcycle.
Dominik: If you want to experience the true vastness and loneliness of western Patagonia GO NOW! They are right now laying asphalt and are constructing bridges which on one hand makes traveling much more comfortable and easy, but on the other inevitably kills the great pathfinder-feeling and will kick-off a different sort of tourism.

+ Chile and Argentina. The approx 9,500 km-tour was done with rented bikes. Alfons used a BMW R 1150 GS and a German companion a BMW R 1200 GS.
Purpose of your travel: Sightseeing
Route: Chile (Starting point Iquique - Tocopilla - Calama - San Pedro de Atacama - Paso de Jama) - Argentina (Salta - Cafayate - Tinogasta - Fiambala - Paso de San Francisco) - Chile (Copiapó - La Serena - Valle del Elqui - Valparaiso - Santiago - Curoco - Temuco - Villarica - Pucon - Valdivia - Osorno - Perto Varas - Ancud - Entre Lagos) - Argentina (Bariloche - San Martin de los Andes - Zapala - Gral Roca - San Rafael - Mendoza) - Chile (Santiago (end point).
Highlights: the day tour from Fiambala via Paso de San Francisco on gravel road down to Copiapo - that we managed this without a fall down despite no experience with 'ripio'. As well to come back to places which I had been visiting with my familiy in earlier days namely either/or 1979, 1991, 1995 - trying to remember and assessing the change over time.

+ Brazil. Through Brazil in 3 months on one Aprilia Pegaso 650 ca. kms 8.500.
Purpose: To know more about Brazil and have a great adventure.
Route: We shipped the bike from Europe (Germany) to South America (Argentina (Buenos Aires). Buenos Aires – Uruguay over the Rio de la Plata . After 3 days (Colonial, Paysandu, Tacuarembo) we entered Brasil in Santana do Livramento. Rosario do Sul – Santa Maria – Caxias do Sul – Lages – Florianopolis – Curitiba – Blumenau – Matinhos – Morettes – Cananeias – Peruibe – Sao Jose dos Campos – Volta Redonda – Barra do Pirai – Rio de Janeiro – Teresopolis – Barbacena – Ouro Preto – Mariana – Santuario do Caraca – Sete Lagoas – Diamantina – Aracaui – Vitoria – Barra da Estiva – Chapada da Diamantina, Lencois – Cachoeira – Alagoinhas – Itaporanga – Sao Christovao – Praia do Diogo – Salvador. We could not ship the bike back (the Brazilian Custom is the worst), so we had to sell it.
Highlights: The journey was fantastic, the Brazilians extreme friendly and the land is beautiful. No accidents, no problems with thiefs or the police. Riding through the atlantic forest in Teresopolis, the village of Lencois, Cachoeira a mystic city in Bahia and of course, Rio de Janeiro.
The worst: Coming back to Germany...
My useful informations and TIPS for others: www.pegasoreise.de
We travelled with usual luggage including camping goods. We stayed on Campings (Yes, there are some in Brazil, 0 - 45 RS for two Persons), in cheap Hotels ("Pousadas", 25 - 60 RS) and in the houses of Brazilians who invited us (for free). The Bike was shipped with "Hamburg Süd" for 1000,- Euro from Hamburg to Buenos Aires. But we had no chance to ship it back from Brazil. The custom would not let it out. Why not ? We flew with TAM - Airlines for 1200,- Euro per Person (both ways).

The bike was transported from Germany ( Berlin ) to Argentina ( Buenos Aires ) by ship for € 1600 with "interfracht", who offers a very good and transparent service. Transportation back was organized by "Villa Kunterbunt" from Chile ( Valparaiso ) for € 1300. I can recommend them as well.

Ramon Müller "on horse" arcross America in 2011.
26.10.2011 - ??.??.2012
Ramon Müller (German, born ??.05.1979)
- Plan Argentina - Mexico by horse. Ramon planned to ride solo with two horses from Argentina overland to Mexico in the beginning. In a newsletter he send the information that at the border of Uruguay / Argentina he has dificulties with the papers of a horse. He finally send home many thinks so he can ride with one horse.
Purpose: To fullfill a dream. To find out who I am.
The best: ??
The worst: ??
Useful tips for others: ??
22.01.2011
First info by Friedemann von Thielmann in Buenos Aires that this tour is really happening. Ramon wrote that he closed his webiste to concentrate on his tour.
22.01.2011 B.T. wrote first email to Ramon and asked him to send one foto and the overview.
23.11.2011 First answer with foto and map:
"
25.11.2011
Because Ramon would have to import the horse in Argentina and cannot pass the border he will sell the horse in Uruguay and buy another one in Argentina.

Purpose of travel: A break from day to day life
Route: French Guyana - Brazil - Paraguay - Uruguay - Argentina - Chili - Bolivia - Peru - Ecuador - Colombia and then time will tell what is possible.
The best: Enjoying the adventure and being in nature
The worst: No bad expierence yet
Useful information: For persons: KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has very good priced return flights to/from Amsterdam if there is a long time between the flights and you can return from a different location without added cost. Bike-transport: Geodis Wilson in Amsterdam can ship almost worldwide. The best: We will enjoy ourselves and spending a great time on the bike meeting people. And do not work.
We will enjoy ourselves and spending a great time on the bike meeting people. And do not work. And we have done it. It was great fun, we met nice people wherever we came and were invited several times (overnight, a ride to local vineries, Christmas church and family ceremony, dinner or just for a beer). We saw great landscapes , helped some local people to overcome their challenges in some of the poorer countries, met a lot of bikers from South America, US and Europe and even Thailand, saw the Dakar stage in Iquique and were fascinated by the Bolivian fans that invited us for barbecue. We enjoyed the beaches of Iquique, Arica, La Serena, Bahia Ingles and Vina del Mar, the pools of the W hotel in Santiago (thanks for getting us in for free although we did not sleep there) the hostel in San Salvador de Jujuy and Arica, the lakes of Chilean lake district and Titicaca and the volcanoes around, the salars of Uyuni and along the road to paso de Jama, the offroad tracks on RN40 and in Bolivia, the dunes on Chiles coastline, the pampa in Argentina, the mountains in Peru, Chile, Argentina and Bolivia, the camping ground at the shore of Laguna Colorada, the warm bath in the hot springs of Pucon and Laguna Verde, the snowed customs office at the Chilean-Bolivian border on 5040m above sea level, the Inca ruins in Machu Picchu and Cusco, the nice shopping of Alpaca clothes in Peru and Bolivia, the Titicaca reed boat yard where Thor Heyerdahl built his boat to cross the Atlantic. We met our German friends managing a farm between Victoria and Curacautin, visited a Chilean rodeo, tasted wines in Chillan, Mendoza, San Rafael, Cafayate and Cachi incl. the wineries of Bianchi/San Rafael and Salentein/Mendoza, ate perfect local dishes (incl. asado in Chile, picada in Mendoza, the bife chorizo in the restaurant “El patio de Jesus Maria”/Mendoza, “Viejo Jack”/Salta, ceviche in Iquique, llama steak in Purmamarca, tapas Peruvian in Cusco, best rolls in Puno, trucha in the floating islands of Titicaca and much more, also not to be forgotten: the Maracuja Sour of Cusco) AND most important: We love each other more than ever!
Book or publication: Not planned, but who knows…we will give frequent facebook updates to our friends. There is a group of 100 followers of our Facebook group. If you speak German, join us or just watch out for our pictures. We may publish in a German motorcycle newspaper (Enduro or Tourenfahrer)
Earlier experiences: Me (Cay) travelled a lot ranging from European to African and Middle East countries (Germany, Scotland, Senegal, Mauritania, Morocco, Spain, Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finnland, Norway, Sweden, Russia, Turkey, Syria, Greece, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Italy, Switzerland, France etc). For Karoline it will be her first trip on a bike.
2008 and 2010 Cay-Bernhard visited two motorcycle meetings for world-traveller "Tesch-Travel-Treffen" in Malmedy / Belgium. He is also frequent guest to the MRT in Gieboldehausen and the Elefantentreffen in Bavaria.

10 weeks of South-America.

20.10.2011 A motorcycle normally needs ca. 2 ccm (Kubikmeter) with a box. We managed to build this box with 2,5 qm for TWO motorcycles. My travel-friend Alfred Reetz (foto right) and B.T. build the box. There is no cm too much space....

Patricia Govers-Tesch (Dutch artist, born 28.06.1956, www.patriciagovers.de) and Bernd Tesch (German, born 20.08.1941, www.berndtesch.de and www.tukutuku.de )
- Plan South-America: Argentina and Chile. Patricia and Bernd Tesch plan to travel in South-America first time with two motorcycles 3 months.
Purpose: To travel is the very best school of life !
Route: 05.09.2011 We have no special route so far because no bikes. Ideal we would like to travel from: Chile - Argentina - Brasil - Bolivia - Peru or opposite. Depending on the bikes and climate.
03.12.2011: Because we could not make it for "A lot of reasons" to rent two bikes for good prices or buy / resell two enduro-bikes in a country in South-America we finally decided to go the "standard way": Via www.mobile.de we bought very quick two YAMAHA XT 600 E, build 1991/1992 with each only 30.000 kms for € 1.500 and € 1.700. We had to invest around € 500,00 for each bike more to make them ready to travel (new tires and brakes). Then we build a wooden box and send the bikes via lorry from our home in Hammer (EIFEL / Germany) by cargo-Schenker to Germanys ship-harbour Hamburg for 250,00.- From Hamburg our wooden-box with 2,5 Kubikmeter only with two (!) motorcycles was send by firm Seafair via ship to Valparaiso in Chile for around € 606,00 including fees. IN harbour Chile we will have to pay around € 600,00 in total for two bikes to have them ready to travel. All the shipping from Hamburg to Chile we organised with German "Martina" from Villa Kunterbunt in Valparaiso / Chile. http://villakunterbuntvalpo.blogspot.com/. Start to write to her and you will get an offer and answers to all your questions professionally. Villa Kunterbunt-Martina: villakunterbuntvalpo@yahoo.de
Patricia and Bernd will travel by air mainly with airline Lufthansa from Düsseldorf to Madrid and then to Santiago de Chile and back for around € 2.000 for two persons both ways.
Our route will be so far: Arriving in Valparaiso 05th.12.2011. Start a few days later along the west coast of Chile down as far as Puerto Montt. Cross the mountains Anden somewhere and continue south to Punta Arenas in Argentina possibly. Then we head north to glacier "Moreno" and somehow more north via Argentina and Chile. Around city Tucuman in northern Argentina I will try to find family-relations coming after my real uncle "Fritz Bremme (1902), stared to livein Argentina 1927. Nobody knows if they are still there... Two bothers of my mother, called "Richard Bremme (Born 1899)" and "Fritz Bremme (1902)" in 1927 shipped to Argentina to live there. While the living-family members of Richard still live in Argentina / Guatemala / N.Y in USA and Seattle / USA nobody knows what happened to the farmer-family of "Fritz Bremme" and children around Tucuman. After we found them hopefully there we ride more north until the border of Bolivia and come back via desert Atacama in Chile to Valparaiso beginning of march 2012.
There are so many
motorcycyle-travellers "on the road" in Chile and Argentina which I know personally that I could arrange a "Tesch-Travel-Treffen" there.... We do NOT know so far where we will be on Christmas and "Sylvester" = new years evening. If somebody of you will arrange a big party we might be there..even on top of a mountain. Best wood be in a wooden hut in the wilderness somewhere. If somebody with a smile and a package of dry firewood will appear then I might be B.T. You can only contact us by email: berndtesch(ad)gmail.com .
Highlights: To travel again. Being healthy with 70 years ! We want to meet mc traveller "Around-The-World", Dutch Marcel Kersten, with Dutch Elena in any case. - And if you would like to meet us "on the way" somewhere, we would like to see your smile and coffee as well. Contact us please !
The worst: Hopefully we find a solution for the bikes... and transport ... and a fair price of costs...
Travel-health-insurance for three montths for
Patricia (55) and me (70) would cost: in DKV in total € 2109,00 for both for all Americas. In ADAC in total for both € 350,00....
My useful information and TIPS for others: ask again after journey :) for this trip
My earlier experiences of all travels and Motorcycle-Tours: Please see under www.berndtesch.de/deutsch/BTesch.html
05.09.2011 We do not have two motorcycles in S-America so far. Because Bernd had always sponsored motorcycles for nearly all huge mc-tours 1979-2005 we do not have modern motorcycles in Germany which we would like to take for this S-America tour. So it depends how we manage to get two motorcycles there in S-A.
Who can rent out us for a reasonable price two e.g. YAMAHA XT 600 E or BMW F 650 GS or other motorcycles in S-A ?
Who can sell us for a reasonable price two e.g. YAMAHA XT 600 E or BMW F 650 GS or other motorcycles in S-A ?
Who can sell us and buy back us for a reasonable price two e.g. YAMAHA XT 600 E or BMW F 650 GS or other motorcycles in S-A ?
If it is not possible to get two bikes: Who has a good car?
12.01.2011 Adam Shani, a very wellknown Around-The-World traveller wrote to B.T.: On 12th of January 2011, the bike has arrived to Valparaiso Port, and was off loaded the same day. Next morning I went to the port, and then cleared customs.
And some other formalities, and finally, got the box the bike was sleeping in. All went well, and the bike arrived safe and sound. I was very impressed with the Chilean efficiency! Total port Charges where 200 Euro, and NO agent(or Spanish) is needed to clear the bike from customs.
05.09.2011 First summary above.
14.09.2011 Our first plan was to fly to South-America, to rent or to buy two motorcycles there, to ride for 3 months and to fly back to Germany. Bernd asked many motorcycle-travellers (some of this site) and an experienced Around-The-World traveller, who is now a resident in Brasil: Marcel K. He ven offerd us to buy motorcyles there and register the motorcycles on his name there.
We especially wanted to find the cheapest solution because we did not have good motorcycles here. Bernd got always two sponsored motorcycles 1978-2005 for most of his long-distance trips.
To rent two bikes was possible. But this would mean that we had to ride in a circle somehow. And we did not want to stop or freedom to ride and stop where we want to go. And it is expensive for 3 months.
All our efforts to buy two bikes in S-America came to the end that it is very complicated for a stranger for some reasons. There are 12 countries with 9 languages and all have different laws. We do not speak Spanish: Just German, Dutch, English and French. AND it is difficult to find motorcycles in good quality to a reasonable price there. AND to buy spareparts for YAMAHA XT 600 E is difficult. AND there are now mostly computers at thr borders.
We decided to take this type of bike because Patricia and Bernd and circled three months half of Australia with two YAMAHA XT 600 E of our sponsor Kurt Weidner. Bernd had used two by YAMAHA Germany sponsored XT 600 for a tour form the Atlantic (France) to China (13.000 kms) with his 21-young-son Min Tesch in 1997. And Bernd has used two XT 600 K with his travel-friend Alfred Reetz to cross Africa on the longest distance from Senegal to Kenia in 1990 through 12 countries - including 5.500 km off-road.
16.09.2011 We looked in www.mobile.de (Germans largest website for automobiles) under motorcyles and found ca. 45 YAMAHA XT 600 E. We started to sort out them after the price (€ 1.600-3.500) and quality. When we called the first owner we asked him if we can see the bike. The young man answerded "You have seen the XT 600 E on yout last Tesch-Travel-Treffen". Because I did not undertstand his name in the beginning of the call, I asked again who he he was: Stefan Hagmanns, the son of Wilhelm Hagmans. Stefan has been many times on the TTT ! What a coincidence that we called him at the first person !! Stefan brought us the mc on the same day (friday) from Geldern. We all were very happy ! Bj. 1992, 30.000 kms, € 1500,00.
29.09.2011 Patricia and I bought the next XT 600 E with 27.800 kms in Cologne for € 1700,00. This blue mc was not so much cared off then the first one. But the motor seems to be o.k.
30.09.2011 In 30 minutes we
had registered the two used motorcycles YAMAHA XT 600 E with the numbers AC TE 41 and TE 70 in Monschau / Rathaus. Great success !
01.10.2011 Request to RTW traveller Adam Shani for all details how he
managed to send his motorcycle BMW 1200 GS from Europe to Chile / Valparaiso. And how he flew !
04.10.2011 Request to high recommended spedition by RTW-traveller Adam Shani "In Time" in Hamburg; boss is Olaf J. Kleinknecht. Sending motorcyles all over the world. www.intime-ham.com .
Cost for a BMW 1200 GS from Hamburg to Valparaiso by ship in 01.2011: cost for building a wooden-sperrholz-box around € 200,00. Costs for shipping the box with bike from Germany / Hamburg to Chile / Valparaiso € 550,00. Costs in Valparaisio € 200,00 total for police and customs. No agent. Not more.

04.10.2011 Request to mc-traveller Marc Siweck in Luxembourg, who take part in an private organised container with several (8 ?) private motorcyles to Valparaiso cheaply.
05.10.2011 Very detailed answer of Marc Siweck.
06.10.2011 Bernd´s motorcycle
YAMAHA XT 600 E, 1992, 27.900 kms came in the workshop BigAirMax in Konzen for soem details.
06.10.2011 Request first time to German Martina Schaarschmidt and Enzo in Villa Kunterbunt in Chile / Valparaiso. They offer a home for mc-travellers and organise transports of motorcycles as import and export http://villakunterbuntvalpo.blogspot.com/
06.10.2011 Very quick first nice answer of Martina.
06.10.2011
Request to Herman Frank Steinberger who organised in 2008 and 2009 as a private person to send a container 20 feet with 8 private motorcycles to Chile / Valparaiso and back. A participant had to pay 1200.-€ für the transport both ways all including the fees in Chile. Very helpful were Martina and Enzo from Villa Kunterbunt in Vaparaiso. In firms "Seetours" and Transhanseatic" you can try places in containers.
11.10.2011 The mc of B.T. came out of the garage BigAirMax with new brake-plates, new "Schwingungsdämpfer". Head of garage Harry. Boss Marco Steiner in Konzen.
11.10.2011 New rain suit from www.lidl.de came in for € 54,90 - made by www.roleff.de
13.10.2011 Request to embassy in Peru in Berlin to ask: How is it possible to leave two motorcycles there for one year ?
13.10.2011 The same request to Bruno von Arx in Peru www.perumoto.com
13.10.2011 The same request to Dieter Spicher from the German embassy in Lima/Peru. He was gigh remommend by Around-The-World traveller Jochim von Loeben: www.triparoundtheworld.de
13.10.2011 Final costs from Martina SCHAARSCHMIDT in Villa Kunterbunt ( Tel. 0056-32-2288873 ) for sending two motorcyles to Valparaiso and back by ship.
14.10.2011
Answer from Bruno von Arx in Lima: We had the same request from another man before and found out that there is no chance to leave the motorcycles in Peru at the customs for 1 year: The motorcycle has to leave the country when the visum of the person is finished There is no way to leave the motorcycle at the customs. I have no idea if this is possible in Equador..
14.10.2011 Mr. Holger Jansen from Fa. Scherf Gmbh in Simmerath (02473-96660) informed me very good about "certified wood" to build a motorcyle-box.
14.10.2011 Weltzeiten
Umrechner Zeitzonen
Alu-Boxen "Tesch-Travel-Taschen" an neuen Träger angebaut.
20.10.2011 Holzkiste aus Sperrholz
gebaut. Mit Reise-Freund Alfred Reetz 5 Platten 250 L x 120 H?? x 2 cm B gekauft: Ca. € 150,00. . .
26.10.2011 Wenigstens hier Klarheit: Was darf man an Gepäck in kg mitnehmen ? Und was kostet Übergepäck ?
Antwort: Es gibt keine einheitlichen Regeln in Deutschland.
Also angerufen bei Lufthansa 01805805805.

Jorge is
top-organisator of a motorcycle-club for travellers in
Argentina in AZUL (about 300 kms south of Buenos Aires). This small
Moto-Club are very happy to receive foreign travellers for an exchange of thoughts
of life and travel. They offer hospitally and a bed free of charge. But you
guy should offer them a big present for this and NOT live on their money. Otherwise their wonderful gesture will not be there for many other motorcycle-travellers
in future. Since 06th.05.2001 they have a website.
Because Bernd Tesch helped
them to publish their idea and send some travellers there they send personal greetings
with presents back. In their rooms is hanging a sign on which is written that "I will once visit them". I think it I should travel there once... better yesterday...
. I promise to come in next 500 years. .or earlier!
20.03.2003 Due to the very bad economical
situation the club needs financial support to keep their idea open. Bernd Tesch
collects constant money for them. So, please send 1 + x Euro to me. I will make
sure that the next South America traveller will transport the donates to them.
10.12.2003
SAmerica traveller Niklas Geiger asked me to collect money for the club because
they are in a very bad economically situation. Bernd Tesch did this on the "25th
Mc-Meeting for World-Travellers". German RTWorld Traveller Mika Kuhn gave
the money to Jorge. Jorge wrote me that he will run the club his whole life. Bernd
Tesch promised to support this unique idea a life long.
28.08.2011 Bernd Tesch and Patricia Govers-Tesch "plan" to travel to S-A first time in
winter 2011 starting possibly around 2011 for 1-3 months. Of course I would like to visit this famous clun with travel friends. If you go there before we do please inform Jorge. And give me a report how you liked it there after your visit.

hope you liked reeding this. I am just waiting for YOUR email helping me to update:
A LIFELONG job with passion. Bernd Tesch in Germany
Problematik: Motorräder in S-Amerika
Leihen, kürzer und länger
Kaufen, auf eigenen Namen anmelden
Kaufen mit Rückkauf-Garantie dort
2011
1. Bolivien 27.05.2001-06.03.2002:
XT in Walter Nosiglias Werkstatt in La Paz.
3. Argentinien 21.10.2002-05.04.2003
Damit erhaelt man 180 Tage maximale Aufenthaltsdauer.
4. Ecuador 01.06.2003-06.01.2005
Equador nach Kolumbien in 2005:
Kolumbien verlangte Ausreiseticket beim Einreisen.
20?? Peru: habs nicht stehen lassen
20?? Ecuador: Wird normalerweise in Pass eingetragen.
